Kew Dock Yip (1906-2001)
Kew Dock Yip (Dock) was born in Vancouver’s Chinatown in 1906. He moved to Toronto and graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1945. Later that year, he became the first Chinese Canadian to be called to the Bar in Canada. He served the Chinese Canadian community for 47 years from his office in Chinatown till his retirement from law in 1992. In 1998, he received the prestigious Law Society Medal from the Law Society of Upper Canada.
